I broke this post up in the first place because I didn’t want this post to be 20 pages long.  But, I am more than ready to wrap this thing up now.

12.12.12. The Concert for Sandy Relief

13 Dec

IThe WHo figured it was only right that I give a review of this sprawling epic, considering I had the opportunity to see it in a movie theater (more on that later).  The devastation of Hurricane Sandy needed a relieving evening like tonight, and while there were a lot of awkward moments and some downright bad moments, overall, I think the evening was a riveting success, and I just want to share some of my thoughts.  Continue reading

Ashley’s Top Ten Albums of the 2000s! (10-6)

29 Mar

I was going to go ahead and do the whole top ten in the same post, but then I realized I had quite a bit to say about 5-1, so I’m breaking them up into two parts.  That being said, I actually don’t have THAT much to say about 10-6 .  I have failed you loyal and dedicated reader that never says anything 😉

Ashley’s Top 50 Albums of the 2000s: 50-41

20 Mar

A day late and a dollar short, but let’s do this thing shall we?  A word of warning, I don’t feel like I was none to aware of the events transpiring musing-wise this past decade, and as a result, I know this is not the greatest list of its kind that you will read.  I don’t have a lot to say about all the entries, and I will not always try, but let’s enjoy this little countdown anyways.  Along the way I’ll try to share with you a bit about my various mishaps with music this decade, this is the time when I first really began to acknowledge the music world outside of what my parent’s listened to, and it was a very special time for me.  Hopefully I can share some of that with you.
Also, once upon a time this article was all nights with album covers, but until I can figure out how to make WordPress not a stupid piece of shit, you’ll have to deal without them.

Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief – A Review

25 Jan

Let me preface this by saying that I fully support what George Clooney did by putting this telethon together. Haiti needed all the help they could get before the earthquake and now that need is exponentially higher. Please, give what you can to http://www.hopeforhaitinow.org.

That said, this is a music-reviewing blog, and music was played during the telethon. And I am a smartass. So let’s get rolling with the review.

The Top Ten Songs of 2009

7 Jan

So I still haven’t managed to get myself a final list of albums for the year but seeing as time is moving on I guess I better at least give you my songs of the year so here they are.

10. Franz Ferdinand – Ulysses
Let’s kick this list off with a band who really disappointed me this year and that band are Franz Ferdinand who took years to release an album that sounded like they came up with everything over the course of one weekend. While the majority of the album sees Franz sounding like watered down and boring versions of themselves, Ulysses sees them at their best. As a first single it’s perfect, it has a great hook and you know what it made me want to hear the album, curse you Ulysses

Best Albums of 2009: 40-31

23 Dec

Well, even though I’m still unwell, I opted for some Taco Bell tonight.  What a mistake.  They’ve discontinued all of my favorite foods, and the chicken on this taco is hard as a rock.  Despair.  Anyways, we’re not here to talk about my dinner, we’re here to talk about music, so let’s do that, shall we?  Some notes about this list from here on out, I could easily have placed 40-21 in alphabetical order and felt justified in doing so, I love all of these albums pretty equally. Onwards! Continue reading

Lisztomania!

17 Nov

As I mentioned, I believe, once already, I do so love making lists.  I promise this won’t be an all the time sort of thing, but maybe once or twice a month…week…day…hour…we’ll see!
So to start things off, and to perhaps give a better idea of who I am and what my tastes are in general, I’m going to share with you my top 15 favorite artists, and maybe a bit more info about that as well. Continue reading
