An Ocean of Noise 2.0

16 Sep

When this blog was originally started all those years ago I had such big plans for it, I loved writing about music and wanted to be able to project my highly questionable opinions onto the rest of the world. Unfortunately real life got in the way, with a super stressful Masters and a year of being completely lost in life I kind of lost my enthusiasm for a lot of things, being broke certainly didn’t help either. However after a couple of years of working and having money to actually buy music (vinyl is my new addition) and go to concerts, I feel like I’m ready to again start making sense of the noise that is music.

Oh and Ashley is going to be posting too and we’re going to try our best to deliver regular quality content, so please join us on our journey and enjoy the relaunch of An Ocean of Noise, almost like a phoenix rising from the ashes you could say…that gives me an idea for our first new review!

And because I probably should relate this post to music in some way here’s the current playlist I’m listening to, not hard to guess what I’m currently in the mood for

Lovestarrs – Life is a Bitch
Charli XCX – You (Ha Ha Ha)
IamamIwhoamI – Fountain
Phantogram – Black Out Days
FKA Twigs – Two Weeks
MØ – Pilgrim
Banks – This is What it Feels Like
Purity Ring – Amenamy
Grimes – Genesis
Chvrches – Gun

Another new post? ZOMG!

28 Nov

Yeah, what the hell. Why not?

In the interest of list-making and redeeming myself after the utter failure of barely listening to any new music in 2010 (especially not at all getting through the ambitious list I posted for myself of stuff I was going to listen to), here are the albums I’ve done in the past 3 months of 2011, in no particular order

Album review: New Zealand > You – Axver And The Quiet Minority

17 Feb

Yes, that Axver. This album just sort of fell into my lap and I felt it was my duty, as a music blogger (term used loosely) to review it.

So let’s begin, shall we?

Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief – A Review

25 Jan

Let me preface this by saying that I fully support what George Clooney did by putting this telethon together. Haiti needed all the help they could get before the earthquake and now that need is exponentially higher. Please, give what you can to http://www.hopeforhaitinow.org.

That said, this is a music-reviewing blog, and music was played during the telethon. And I am a smartass. So let’s get rolling with the review.

Album Review: Brokencyde – BC13

7 Jan

This review will be in the Horrible Music Hour style of reviewing meaning we get one listen and our random thoughts are the review

Bree Bree
John: Just no, no Brokencyde we don’t want to hear you all trying to be monkeys, no you hear me no. Why doesn’t she shake her ass? Because she’s too busy throwing her drink in your face and kicking you in the balls, or are you too drunk and high to notice?
Ax: brokeNCYDE introduce themselves with a sample of chimpanzees fighting. There is a chance this might actually be the band members themselves. Whiniest and most emo chimpanzees I have ever heard.

(I apologise to all members of the chimpanzee community for this unflattering comparison. It’s nothing personal. I know brokeNCYDE are one or two million steps below you in the evolutionary chain.)

Have I Changed Or Is It The Music? (Part 1)

18 Dec

2004 was a big year for me, it was the year I officially got into music. But let’s not start there, because obviously I liked music before then I just wasn’t obsessed with it…well I kind of liked it. Let’s go back to when I was around 10 years old and I had my first concert. Now if I was some really cool person I would have seen some awesome band live but…my first band was…S Club 7.
Now I know I should be embarrassed by this but really I’m not, S Club 7 came from a time when pop music wasn’t that bad, I mean come on who can deny the awesomeness of Don’t Stop Moving?. Unsurprisingly I loved the concert, I mean I was a kid I listened to the radio I didn’t know any better. Still despite liking music I had yet to encounter an album that would change my life, you know the one you just can’t stop listening to no matter how many times you hear it?

Indie Overload

17 Nov

I am not a huge fan of indie music. And I have the overwhelming urge to punch every hipster I see in the face. Call it the militant punk in me. And, yes, there is one. However, I am a fan of a handful of bands who are in the so-called British Indie genre. So today, I made a playlist of the following albums:

Welcome IV?!

16 Nov

Howdy Ho, Neighbor, Ashley/Bono212 here.  Is it becoming obvious that we all know each other because of U2?  Anyways, about me…well, I’m a Film/Television major at TCU in Fort Worth, TX, though I’m a native of Indiana.  My goal in life is…not actually thought out yet at all, we’ll see where life takes me.  For now, I want to work in Sports Broadcasting, I’m a bit of a sports nut, but not to the extent that I obsess about stats and players, I just love to watch (creep).

Music! How about we talk about music?  I love it, do you?  That’s good, I mean, I’m assuming your answer was yes, or what are you doing on a music blog?  I’m going to get the stereotypical “I like all music” out there right now, and then amend it, mmkay?  I could go on and on listing top artists, top songs, top albums (I like to make lists, perhaps I’ll share those another time), but your best bet on a glimpse into my musical likes/dislikes is probably going to be last.fm.  I scrobble obsessively, and now that my phone has scrobbling capabilities, I’ll be more powerful than you could possibly imagine! Oh, I probably should’ve warned you about that in advance, I uh, I quote things a lot.  All things, it matters not from whence it came.

Welcome – III

16 Nov

Hi. I’m Reggo, as of this writing, the only girl and the only American posting in this blog. Not that any of that matters.

What is there to say? My musical tastes are mostly punk rock, classic rock, and whatever pigeon hole you like to put U2 into. Here’s a list of some of my favourite bands.

Final Fantasy XIII Theme Song – My Hands

16 Nov

So I’m not going to lie here, I’m a pretty big gamer. I’ve been into them for years and one of my favourite series of all time has been Final Fantasy. But this is not a gaming blog so why am I talking about this? Well simple, music has always been a key part of the Final Fantasy series, back in what many would regard as the glory days of the series, the game would feature an amazing soundtrack composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Final Fantasy VIII is my personal favourite, I actually own the soundtrack to it on CD, I’ll probably get around to reviewing it for here eventually but that’s not what this is about.

A couple of days ago, RPG addicts the world over rejoiced when it was announced that Final Fantasy XIII  is coming out in Europe and North America on the 9th of March. However they were also in for a shock when the theme song for the game was also announced; that song turned out to be My Hands by Leona Lewis and naturally seeing as it wasn’t sung by some random J-Pop singer that none of the people who play the game have ever heard of, a lot of people started to get a little angry…actually scratch that a lot of people went completely over the top and claimed they wouldn’t buy the game now; because apparently a four minute song ruins a 50 hour long game.
