Lovestarrs – Supernova

16 Sep

Lovestarrs

For a band that are just officially releasing their debut EP Lovestarrs already have quite the history behind them. Originally known as The Good Natured they gathered a lot of positive buzz with the fantastic “Your Body is a Machine” in 2009, the equally great Skeleton EP (Which I own on vinyl!) followed in 2011 and another solid single “5-HT” last year seemed to pave the way for what looked to be a very promising debut album. Unfortunately after being dropped by their label and failing to secure the rights to their masters it seemed like the end of the road.

Thankfully earlier this year the band rose from the ashes as the newly christened Lovestarrs with the release of “Get Your Sexy On“. Over the last few months as they slowly released songs on their Soundcloud it became clear that we were in for potentially something special.

Album Review: The Charlatans – Who We Touch

17 Sep

I’ve never been a huge fan of The Charlatans…now don’t confuse that with me hating them, they are far from a bad band and I know they have their fans so if this review does not agree with your tastes, then feel free to comment, this is just how I feel, I don’t claim to be an expert on this band but I am a person who likes music and The Charlatans well they make music so here’s the review.

Who We Touch is the band’s first album since 2008’s You Cross My Path which was released on the internet as a free download before getting a retail release a few months later. While not a bad album You Cross My Path failed to do much to set itself apart from the crowd. A couple of great singles with memorable melodies made the album worth hearing a couple of times but nothing more really, at best it gave you a couple of songs to add to your shuffle, anyway that’s the past Who We Touch is the present and the question is, is it better?

Five Worst Albums of the 2000s. Number Five

8 Feb

So here I am sitting in possibly the most boring class ever in the history of any college course, I mean “Chartists are people who spend their lives studying charts”, no shit Sherlock. Anyway I thought to myself, what could possibly be worse than this class and you know what five albums came to mind, all from the last decade so guess what it’s time for my five worst albums of the 2000s!

Now part of me wants to give the number one and two on this list to the one and only Lady Gaga, because anyone who knows me knows I despise her to no end; I still maintain that I am the last sane person on this planet but alas even I must concede there is in fact far worse music than her…well that sent a shiver down my spine; so without further insulting of Miss Gaga or Gag as Ashley calls her, let’s get the list started, with my number five LOL! The Fame Crossroads

6 Feb

Hey, Traviud here. Since I began writing for this site, I’ve given off something of an image of being a hipster schmuck. While that’s wholly accurate, it’s also misleading, as I do have a sizable appreciation for shimmering melodies and considerable hooks, and my interest in pop radio has increased as of late, due in part to bono_212’s own love for it, and partially due to a recent shift in sound from dunderheaded braggadocio rap to shiny synth pop. While I don’t often dedicate a lot of thought to music I hear on the radio (surely how it’s meant to be), occasionally an artist will burst onto the scene that garners such interest.

Final Fantasy XIII Theme Song – My Hands

16 Nov

So I’m not going to lie here, I’m a pretty big gamer. I’ve been into them for years and one of my favourite series of all time has been Final Fantasy. But this is not a gaming blog so why am I talking about this? Well simple, music has always been a key part of the Final Fantasy series, back in what many would regard as the glory days of the series, the game would feature an amazing soundtrack composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Final Fantasy VIII is my personal favourite, I actually own the soundtrack to it on CD, I’ll probably get around to reviewing it for here eventually but that’s not what this is about.

A couple of days ago, RPG addicts the world over rejoiced when it was announced that Final Fantasy XIII  is coming out in Europe and North America on the 9th of March. However they were also in for a shock when the theme song for the game was also announced; that song turned out to be My Hands by Leona Lewis and naturally seeing as it wasn’t sung by some random J-Pop singer that none of the people who play the game have ever heard of, a lot of people started to get a little angry…actually scratch that a lot of people went completely over the top and claimed they wouldn’t buy the game now; because apparently a four minute song ruins a 50 hour long game.
